Trip to the world’s tallest statue of Christ. The route lead from Bohemia through Jizera mountains, Ještěd, to Lusatian mountains. There we had coffee and crossed to Germany. The goal was the historical town Löbau in east Saxony, in the Saxon part of Upper Lusatia. It’s located in the valley of the Löbauer Wasser river near the double basalt hill Löbauer Berg / Schafberg. Its most important sights include the Baroque Town Hall, cast iron lookout tower of King Friedrich August 28m and Functionalist House Schminke. After visiting these places we continued towards our destination using secondary roads. We arrived in the afternoon and it was worth it. The statue of King Christ is the tallest statue of Jesus Christ in the world (if the crown is included in the height of the statue). The statue is 52 meters tall and weighs 440 tons. It stands by the city Świebodzin on a high hill of stones and rubble. The monument is 36 meters tall (with the crown) and is made of fiber-reinforced concrete with steel reinforcements. the crown, which is all gilded, has 3,5 meters in diameter and is 3 meters high. Christ’s head is 4,5 m tall and weighs 15 tons. Each hand is 6 meters long and the distance between fingers is 24 m. The author is a sculptor called Mirosław Kazimierz Patecki. For the night we stayed in the town of Zbaszyn on Lake Bledno. A nice and calm place to end the day. In the morning we headed south and because of the 33 degree Celsius heat we rested and swam by the town Slawa on lake Slawskie. Ice cream and cooling down in the lake was a must. This is followed by the beautiful historic town of Legnica, where we will return next time for the whole day. Then through Bolkow where an ancient castle rises above the town and seems to guard the border zone of the Giant Mountains. We crossed the hills back to Bohemia, said our goodbyes and planned for next trips.
